Xiaomi Enters EV Market with YU7 Electric SUV to Rival Tesla Model Y
Beijing/Mumbai, May 26, 2025 — Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has officially stepped into the electric vehicle (EV) SUV market with the launch of the YU7, a luxury performance SUV aimed squarely at challenging the Tesla Model Y. The new model, Xiaomi’s first electric SUV and second EV overall, will begin rolling out in July 2025.
Developed to meet growing global demand for electric mobility, the YU7 combines premium design, powerful performance, and impressive driving range, placing it firmly among top-tier electric SUVs.

Borrowing styling cues from Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan, the YU7 features:
- A 4,999 mm body length,
- 1,996 mm width,
- 1,600 mm height, and
- A 3,000 mm wheelbase.
The SUV also sports the largest clamshell aluminum hood used in mass production, along with waterdrop-style headlights and signature “Halo” taillights. With a drag coefficient of just 0.245, the vehicle gains an additional 59 km of range, enhancing its energy efficiency.
Three Variants, Market-Leading Range
The YU7 will be offered in Standard, Pro, and Max variants:
- Standard: 96.3 kWh battery, 835 km range (CLTC) — the highest in its class.
- Pro: Same battery, 760 km range.

Fast, Powerful, and Built for Speed
All models are powered by Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V6s Plus, producing up to 681 bhp and achieving 0–100 km/h in 3.23 seconds. The YU7 uses an 800V silicon carbide platform, allowing:
- 10% to 80% charge in 12 minutes
- Up to 620 km of range in 15 minutes
Packed with Features
The YU7’s interior emphasizes comfort and tech:
- Panoramic sunroof, full leather seating, and soft-touch surfaces
- Massage functions and power-adjustable rear seats
- 1.1-meter-wide Hypervision infotainment display split into zones for driving data, entertainment, weather, navigation, and time
- Up to 1,970 liters of cargo space
A Bold Step into the Future
Built in collaboration with Xiaomi’s tech partners, the YU7 positions the company as a serious competitor in the electric SUV space. It is set to intensify the battle in the global EV market, especially as Tesla looks to expand in India and beyond.
With performance, comfort, and cutting-edge features, Xiaomi’s YU7 signals a bold new direction for the brand — and a fresh challenge for Tesla.
