Mau (UP), Dec 9 – One more woman injured in the wall collapse incident in Ghosi area of Mau district here in Uttar Pradesh succumbed to injuries on Saturday taking the death toll to 7, police sources said here.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to provide a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those seriously injured. He has directed to provide free treatment to the injured.
Taking a serious note of the incident, he has directed that strict action should be taken against those found guilty.
It may be noted that six persons, including two children and four women, were killed and 23 others were injured when a wall collapsed during a marriage function in Ghosi town on Friday.
Police sources said that a marriage function was scheduled at the residence of Brajesh Madhesiya on Saturday as a part of which a ‘Haldi’ ceremony was being organised. To perform the ceremony a group of women had gone outside the town along with the band.
When the women were returning a dilapidated wall collapsed on the group near a bank and around 30 people were buried under the debris. Initially six persons, including Meera (36), Puja (35), Chandra Devi (30), Sushila (52), Anviya (4) and Madhav, were killed in the incident.
District Magistrate Arun Kumar along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Pandey and other officers reached the spot. The rescue and relief work continues and efforts are being made to identify the rest of the deceased.
