Panaji, Nov 23: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur inaugurated the VFX and Tech Pavilion at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji on Tuesday. This significant addition to the Film Bazaar showcased cutting-edge advancements in animation, visual effects, virtual reality, and CGI, marking a new era in Indian filmmaking.

For the first time in the history of Film Bazaar, the VFX and Tech Pavilion was established by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) at IFFI. The pavilion featured immersive exhibits, including a Cine Museum and Viewing Zones of popular streaming platforms like Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Minister Thakur took the opportunity to explore various sections of the Pavilion, interacting with young filmmakers selected under the ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ initiative. He also participated in a demonstration of full-frame Cinema Line Cameras by Sony, showcasing the technological prowess in filmmaking.

During the inauguration, Thakur expressed his optimism about India’s trajectory in the media and entertainment sector. He highlighted India’s remarkable growth, evolving from the 10th to the 5th largest media and entertainment economy globally. The Minister envisions India soon becoming the third-largest industry in the world, driven by the talent of the country’s youth and the innovation of industry leaders.

Thakur emphasized India’s appeal as a preferred destination for film shoots and post-production, owing to its vibrant talent pool and the industry’s innovative spirit. He encouraged content creators to leverage evolving technologies in media and filmmaking, emphasizing the importance of informing and educating audiences alongside entertainment.

Referring to India as a hub of post-production, the Minister lauded the newly established VFX and Tech Pavilion, expecting it to further enhance the post-production landscape in filmmaking.

Experts from creative and artificial intelligence spaces participated in the Pavilion, unveiling possibilities and advancements in moviemaking. Brands like Google Arts and Culture, Netflix, and Amazon showcased their contributions to the ever-evolving landscape of the film industry.

Accompanying Minister Thakur were Neerja Sekhar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Prithul Kumar, Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Managing Director of NFDC. The VFX and Tech Pavilion at IFFI 2023 served as a testament to India’s commitment to embracing technological interventions and innovations in the world of cinema.
