Understanding Ekadashi and Its Significance

Ekadashi is observed twice a month, during both the waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the moon. On this sacred day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and observe a strict fast from Ekadashi Tithi to Dwadashi Tithi.

What is Ekadashi?

Ekadashi, or Ekadasi, marks the 11th lunar day in the Hindu calendar. It falls during both lunar phases:

  • Shukla Paksha: The waxing moon phase.
  • Krishna Paksha: The waning moon phase.

This day symbolizes spirituality, peace, and mindfulness. It’s an opportunity for devotees to control their senses, balance their emotions, and express gratitude to Lord Vishnu for his blessings. It is also a day to seek forgiveness and atone for past mistakes.

Rituals for Ekadashi

  1. Begin Early: Wake up early and take a sacred bath. Clean your home and wear fresh clothes.
  2. Set Up for Puja: Place a wooden plank and install an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu on it.
  3. Light a Diya: Use desi ghee to light a diya, and recite mantras to invoke Lord Vishnu’s presence.
