Chennai, Nov 7 (UNI) – Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, also the DMK Youth wing leader, defended his recent remarks on Sanatana dharma and reiterated his commitment to facing any legal consequences arising from the controversy. In response to protests and criticism, especially from the BJP, Udhayanidhi met with reporters on Monday evening after seeking support from DMK’s alliance party leader Thol Thirumavalan for the party’s signature campaign against NEET.

Sticking to his stand on the Sanatana dharma issue, which has sparked protests nationwide, Udhayanidhi affirmed that he would not change his position. Despite the potential risks to his political positions, including as an MLA, Minister, or DMK Youth Wing leader, he asserted that he would stand firm on the matter. Referring to a Madras High Court Judge’s observation in a case, Udhayanidhi stated that he had not said anything wrong and would not alter his opinion.

“I will face it legally. I may lose my post as Minister or MLA tomorrow, but what is more important to me is being human,” he said, adding that social issues related to ‘Sanatana Dharma’ were centuries old, and “We will oppose ‘Sanatana Dharma’.”
