Islamabad, Dec 15 – A policeman and two paramilitary troops were killed and seven others injured in two separate attacks in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the wee hours of Friday morning, police sources said.
In one incident, two paramilitary troops of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were killed and six others, including five FC personnel and a policeman, were injured when militants attacked their joint check post in Khyber tribal district of the province, the sources told Xinhua.
The terrorists hurled hand grenades and fired with sophisticated guns at the checkpost at about 2:45 a.m. local time and were forced to flee when the FC and police retaliated, the sources added.
The injured people were shifted to a hospital in the provincial capital city of Peshawar.
In a separate attack in the Tank district of the province, a policeman was killed and another injured when militants fired at the police lines, the premises constituting residences, offices, and ammunition storage of police, at about 3:00 a.m. local time, the sources said.
The terrorists fled the scene after a retaliated attack by the police, and a search operation is underway in the area to capture them, the sources added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks yet.
