New Delhi, Dec 14 – Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was on Thursday suspended for the rest of the winter session for ‘ignoble misconduct’.
An angry Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar named O’Brien and asked him to leave the House immediately after the member entered the well and continuously shouted slogans, demanding discussion on Wednesday’s security breach in Parliament by suspending all other business.
The Rajya Sabha had plunged into an uproar soon after convening for the day as the opposition members began a noisy protest with Dhankhar rejecting the 28 notices submitted by them to suspend all other business of the House to discuss the security breach incident.
The slogan-shouting opposition members also demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah come to House and Dhankhar pulled up O’Brien for “gesticulating” and disrupting the proceedings through his “unruly behaviour” and “ignoble misconduct”.
“I am naming Derek O’Brien. He should leave the House immediately,” Dhankhar said and adjourned the House till noon.
After the House resumed proceedings, the members adopted a motion moved by Leader of the House Piyush Goyal to suspend O’Brien for the remainder of the session.
Later, the Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm amid uproar by the Opposition who continued to press for discussion on the security breach incident.
