Moscow, Oct 18: The Thai cabinet announced on Tuesday that Russian tourists will now be permitted a visa-free stay of up to 90 days in Thailand starting November 1 until April 30, 2024. Russia has been included in the list of countries whose citizens are exempt from the requirement of obtaining a visa or permission to stay for up to 90 days, particularly for tourism, according to the cabinet protocol. The decision is aimed at fostering economic and foreign policy cooperation with the Russian Federation, emphasizing the importance of people-to-people ties in international relations.
To implement this change, the government has directed various departments, including the interior ministry and immigration, to make the necessary amendments to relevant decrees, laws, and regulations. The national security service has also been tasked with monitoring the impact of this measure on Thailand’s national security and interests.
Previously, under an intergovernmental agreement, Russian and Thai tourists enjoyed a 30-day visa-free entry to each other’s countries. In August, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had expressed the government’s intention to extend the visa-free stay period for Russian tourists in Thailand from 30 to 90 days.”
