In the wake of invitations for a G20 dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, a tweet by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has sparked curiosity regarding a potential shift in the country’s name. The ongoing parliamentary session has become a battleground for the ruling government and the opposition over the proposed switch from India to Bharat, with the opposition vehemently criticizing the government’s stance.
Amidst this controversy, Bachchan’s tweet of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ has garnered substantial attention. This tweet has gained prominence against the backdrop of the India vs. Bharat naming dispute.
Previously, official invitations to G20 leaders and ministers referred to the country as India, but now, they address the President as the President of Bharat.
Despite a brief stint in politics in the 1980s, Bachchan has largely stayed away from political discussions. He secured a significant victory in the 1984 Lok Sabha polls from Allahabad but resigned in 1987 under controversial circumstances, consistently expressing his disinterest in returning to politics since then.
