Hangzhou, Oct 3: India’s PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy kicked off their singles badminton campaigns with convincing victories here on Tuesday.
In the round of 32, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu triumphed over Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Wen Chi with a scoreline of 21-10, 21-15 at the Binjiang Gymnasium. Displaying agility and tactical play, Sindhu secured the win in 42 minutes.
Despite grappling with injuries and dropping to 15th in the badminton rankings this season, Sindhu showcased resilience on the court. In the first game, she took an 11-6 lead at the break, sealing the game in 18 minutes. The second game saw a brief challenge from Chi, but Sindhu regained control to secure her spot in the Round of 16.
On the men’s side, India’s top-ranked singles player Prannoy had a dominant performance against Mongolia’s Batdavaa Munkhbat, defeating him 21-9, 21-12 in just 25 minutes.”
