Mumbai, Oct 5: Snapping a losing streak of last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Thursday surged 405.53 pts to close at 65,631.57 on the strength of Capital Goods, Industrials and IT stocks amid strong global cues.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 109.65 pts at 19,545.75.
The Sensex opened higher at 65,598.26, up 372 pts. During the day, it was zoomed 527 pts at 65,753.20, days high, before closing at 65,631.57, surging 405.53 pts from its previous close.
The stocks that lifted the market were Capital Goods by 1.31 pc, BSE services by 1.03 pc, IT by 0.98 pc and Industrials by 0.95 pc.
The Mid Cap fell by 0.03 pc while Small Cap rose by 0.59 pc.
In 30 scrips, 24 advanced while 6 declined.
The gainers were L& T by 2.06 pc to Rs 3088.50, M& M by 1.65 pc to Rs 1548, Titan by 1.59 pc to Rs 3216.90, TCS by 1.59 pc to Rs 3593 and Maruti Suzuki by 1.22 pc to Rs 10,258.60.
The losers were Powergrid by 1.21 pc to Rs 196.60, Nestle India Ltd by 0.46 pc to Rs 22,883.05, NTPC by 0.38 pc to Rs 234.10 and HCL Technologies by 0.26 pc to Rs 1236.
