Kolhapur, Nov 18: Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Friday said there was a need for unity among all opposition to take advantage of an “anti-Bhartiya Janata Party” (BJP) atmosphere in the country.
During an informal chat with reporters in Satara district, Chavan said Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself did not think that even if the Ram Temple was built in Ayodhya, it would be beneficial for votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
“So, the BJP was trying to create a communal rift in different ways in the country, which is known by all. At present there is an anti-BJP atmosphere in the country and to take advantage of this atmosphere, unity of all opposition parties is needed,” he said.
On the Maratha reservation issue, Chavan said he had given proper reservation to the Maratha community when he was Chief Minister, but the goverment could not retain it in the court. Since it was a big issue, all party leaders should meet Mr Modi to narrate properly the issue.
