NPCI to Introduce AI-Based Parking Payments, Replacing FASTag RFID System
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is working on a new AI-powered parking payment system that will replace the current FASTag RFID technology used for tolls and some parking facilities.
How Will It Work?
- Instead of RFID tags on windshields, this system will use cameras at parking areas to capture vehicle number plates.
- AI technology will process these images, convert them into numbers, and automatically deduct the parking fee from the vehicle’s FASTag account.
What is FASTag & RFID?
- FASTag currently uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), which allows toll and parking payments via radio waves from a small tag attached to a vehicle.
- The new AI-based method will remove the need for RFID tags, making the process even easier.
NPCI’s Plan
- NPCI is testing this system in both private and public parking areas across India.
- The project aims to be available for all pre-registered FASTag users.
- NPCI is working with startups to improve and develop this AI-driven technology further.
Why is This Important?
- Reduces traffic congestion at parking areas.
- Increases payment accuracy by directly linking number plates to payments.
- Prevents fraud by identifying fake or altered number plates.
This AI-powered parking system could make parking payments faster, more secure, and hassle-free for drivers across India! 🚗💨
