Srinagar, Oct 2: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), stated on Monday that there is no immediate rush to implement the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept in the country.
Azad, a member of the high-level committee formed to examine the government’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal for simultaneous national and state elections, clarified that the committee, led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, recently held its introductory meeting.
“There is no urgency in implementing it, as some people are suggesting. Consultations are to be held with national parties, recognized parties, and regional parties for deliberations,” Azad informed reporters.
He emphasized that the committee won’t make decisions unilaterally, and opinions from various stakeholders will be considered.
Addressing the Women’s Reservation Bill, Azad expressed that it was long overdue. “It should have come 15 to 20 years earlie. It should have come even 30 years earlier. Now, at least there is unanimity, and it was passed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,”he said, praising the government and all parties for the bill’s passage.”
