Chennai, Nov 9 – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted multi-location searches across 10 states in India and apprehended 44 operatives in four human trafficking cases, busting five human trafficking modules in five states. The operation aimed at dismantling illegal human trafficking support networks involved in the infiltration and settlement of illegal migrants across the Indo-Bangladesh border.
According to the NIA press release, raids and searches were carried out at 55 locations in Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Rajasthan, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and Union Territory of Puducherry. Digital devices, identity-related documents, fake Aadhar and PAN cards, Indian and foreign currencies were seized during the operation.
A total of 44 operatives were apprehended, with the highest number in Tripura (21), followed by Karnataka (10), Assam (5), West Bengal (3), Tamil Nadu (2), and one each in Puducherry, Telangana, and Haryana.
The raids in Chennai were part of the nationwide operation, targeting human trafficking networks from Bangladesh to different parts of the country, including the city. The NIA picked up three Bangladeshi citizens posing as migrant workers and staying illegally in different suburban areas of Chennai. The apprehended individuals had fake identity cards and were taken for interrogation.
