New Delhi, Oct 20: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in after reports revealed a shocking case of alleged police inaction in Delhi. The family of a stabbing victim in Lado Sarai had reportedly approached the police multiple times to complain about stalking and harassment by the attacker. Despite these complaints, no action was taken by the authorities.

In response to these disturbing revelations, the NHRC issued notices to the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government and the Delhi Police Commissioner, demanding a detailed report within four weeks. The Commission has called for information on the actions taken against the perpetrator and the police personnel responsible for the delay in responding to the complaints.

The NHRC’s statement also emphasized the need for details on the ongoing police investigation, the health status of the victim, and any relief or rehabilitation provided by the administration. Notably, the victim’s phone, allegedly containing online copies of her complaints, remains locked.

The incident involved a 23-year-old woman who was stabbed over a dozen times by her alleged stalker while boarding a taxi in the Lado Sarai area. The attacker inflicted critical injuries to her head, face, neck, and thighs. According to reports, the accused had a history of misconduct at the workplace, leading to his termination two years ago. Subsequently, he reportedly began stalking the victim, leading to multiple complaints filed against him with the police.

The NHRC’s intervention comes as a response to the family’s claims that the police failed to take timely action, exacerbating the tragic outcome. The victim’s uncle even alleged that the attacker had threatened to kill her if she survived the stabbing.

As the investigation unfolds, questions regarding the handling of the case by the police and the overall response of the authorities loom large, prompting the NHRC to ensure accountability and justice in this distressing incident.
