Nagpur, Dec 12 – Raising issue of farmers in the Maharashtra Assembly on Monday, NCP (Sharad Pawar group) state president Jayant Patil accused the BJP-led state government of ignoring farmers, who have been distressed due to losses suffered due to recent unseasonal rains, and engaging in ‘unimportant’ events for last three to four months.

During discussion on farmers’ issues in the lower house, he charged that the state government was neglecting farmers’ issues and engaged in organising various big events for last three to four months, he continued.

Following addition of one more engine to the government, people thought that the triple-engine grand coalition government would fulfil people’s expectations faster but instead, trouble in this government has increased, he noted.

Therefore, this government is not a triple engine but a trouble engine, he noted.

Observing that there has been a terrible drought-like situation in the state for past eight months and wells along the river have gone dry, the NCP leader said that in such a situation, the state government should have provided relief to farmers by declaring drought in entire state but instead, it declared a partial drought.

With this act, the government has just wiped tears off the faces of farmers in the state, he alleged.

Unseasonal rains have damaged more than 3.93 lakh hectares of agriculture and horticulture in total 22 districts of the state, but the government was not paying attention to affected farmers, Patil added.
