The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has made substantial progress, exceeding 96%, on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Road (MTHL) and aims to complete it by December.

The viaduct and barrier construction is complete, and the focus has shifted to asphalting, light pole installation, CCTV cameras, and toll infrastructure. The MMRDA has finished all ramps at Sewri Interchanges and is in the process of appointing a contractor for a connector between Chirle and the Expressway. A total of 1,212 lighting poles are set to be installed, with 629 already in place, equipped with a central control and monitoring system (CCMS) suitable for the deep sea environment.

Additionally, 78 out of 130 CCTV poles have been erected, and work on the toll infrastructure is 50% complete. The MTHL is a 22km-long sea bridge connecting Mumbai to the mainland, expected to be India’s longest sea bridge, serving 70,000 vehicles daily. The project cost rose from Rs 4,500 crore in 2005 to Rs 17,843 crore in 2018, with 85% funded by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
