Srinagar, Nov 28 – A Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit and can cause light to moderate rain over plains and light snow over middle and higher reaches on November 29–30 in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that the weather will remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain over plains and light snow over the middle and higher reaches at many places, with the possibility of thunderstorms or lighting at a few places on Wednesday-Thursday.
The erratic weather may also cause temporary disruption of surface transportation over hilly areas, including Zojila, Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, and other higher-altitude roads during the period.
The weather is currently partially to generally cloudy at most places and likely to remain dry today.
The weather would generally remain partly to generally cloudy during December 1–2, generally cloudy on December 3, and partly to generally cloudy from December 4–7, it said.
A significant improvement in The minimum temperature observed today was 1-3°C at many stations in Kashmir Division. This is expected to continue until December 1, and thereafter it is likely to fall by 2-4°C, the MeT office added.
Barring Srinagar, the day temperature also witnessed a slight rise the previous day. The visibility that was reduced due to the shallow to moderate fog is likely to improve from today onwards until December 6.
Srinagar recorded a low of 3.9°C on Tuesday against the 3.5°C recorded on Monday, and it was 4.8°C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
The maximum temperature in Srinagar witnessed a slight fall and was recorded at -0.1°C below normal, against 12.1°C for the summer capital during this period of the season.
Pahalgam had a low of 1.2°C against 1.5°C recorded a day ago, and it was 4.6°C above normal for the tourist hot spot of south Kashmir.
Qazigund, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, recorded a minimum of 3.8°C on Tuesday, against 2.6°C recorded the previous night, and Kokerng settled at 2.8°C for the second consecutive day today.
Kupwara recorded a low of 3.0°C against 1.8°C recorded a day ago, and it was 4.1°C above normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of -0.2°C on Tuesday against the -1.2°C recorded the previous night, and it was 2.9°C above normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir, the MeT office said.
