Kolhapur, Oct 30: Pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, displayed on advertisement boards in state transport buses, were on Monday blackened by Sakal Maratha Samaj (SMS) activists in support of their demand for Maratha reservation.
The SMS activists are holding an agitation, to express their solidarity with the ongoing indefinite hunger strike of Manoj Jarange-Patil on the Maratha reservation, at Kolhapur Naka in Ichalkaranji city of Kolhapur district.
The protestors blackened the pictures of the two leaders during a scuffle with the police, who were trying to stop the agitators.
Meanwhile, all six Congress MLAs in the district during the day announced their support to the ongoing agitation on the Maratha reservation issue and suspended all their political programmes scheduled in the district. This was announced by district Congress president Satej Patil in a press conference in the presence of MLAs P N Patil, Raju Awale and Jayashree Jadhav.
