Mumbai Nov 8: A major fire broke out in Central Mumbai’s Dadar municipal corporation-run Kohinoor Parking facility early Tuesday, leaving 18 vehicles charred, police said.


However, there was no human casualty.
The charred vehicles including both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
According to the fire brigade survey, the incident occurred at 12.24 am on podium no. 4 of the parking facility situated near Dadar’s G-North ward office.
The blaze was brought under control within two hours .The fire engulfed 16 four-wheelers and two two-wheelers parked on the fourth level, they said.


The parking facility, the first of its kind, was opened to the public in May last year. Despite its capacity to accommodate 1,100 vehicles, users had frequently complained about its poor maintenance.
Chief Fire Brigade Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar said a preliminary investigation indicated an electrical short circuit caused the blaze. He ruled out foul play and mentioned that fire officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage.
The parking facility was established to alleviate the traffic congestion in Dadar (W), a predominantly commercial area. It marked the BMC’s pioneering initiative in digital car parking systems.
