Mumbai, Nov 29 – Maharashtra NCP (Ajit Pawar group) president & MP Sunil Tatkare paid tributes to Mahatma Phule on his 128th death anniversary on Tuesday at the regional office here saying that the foundation laid in respect of women’s rights and education is glorious and proud.
Interacting with media here after placing a wreath by the statue of Mahatma Phule, he said that Mahatma Phule, the pioneer of Satyashodak movement, gave an ideological direction not only in Maharashtra but also across the country.
Talking about Maratha reservation issue, he asserted that the Maratha community should get reservation, but it should stand the test of reservation law, as it could not survive in the high court and the Supreme Court twice, he said.
While making the party’s stance on the reservation issue clear, the NCP state chief said that the reservation of OBCs should not be tweaked while giving reservation to the Maratha community.
Giving an advise to Shiv Sena (Thackeray group) MP Sanjay Raut, Tatkare said that he should not focus on whether they are being let down but should focus more on how to recover his party and how to face the Lok Sabha elections next year, he added.
