Nagpur, Dec 12 – Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil told the stateLegislative Council that the government has given instructions to district collectors regarding implementation of drought relief to affected areas in the state and that action in this regard is underway.


Replying to a question raised by member Satej Patil about providing financial assistance to farmers in drought affected districts in the state on Monday, he informed that as per the guidelines of the Centre, drought has been declared in 40 talukas of the state and a proposal in this regard has been sent to the central government, he said.


Accordingly, exemptions will also be implemented in 1,021 revenue circles of different districts, he informed. The minister further said that severe drought has been declared in 24 talukas and moderate drought in 16 talukas of the state. In this regard, the government is supporting farmers and is going to help them in all possible ways, he pointed.


On November 10, the government took a decision to declare drought-like conditions in 1,02 revenue circles where less than 75 per cent of average rainfall and less than 750 mm rainfall was recorded during June to September 2023, he said.


The government has declared a drought-like condition in 40 talukas and in 1,021 revenue circles of the state and given exemptions in land revenue, reorganisation of crop loans, non-disconnection of electricity connection to farmers farm pumps in villages where drought-like condition has been declared by the government, he said.


“If any mandals in drought-affected areas are left, they will be included in this, he informed.
Patil also said that instructions have been given to the district collectors regarding implementation of drought relief to affected farmers, he added.
