Nagpur, Dec 19 — In a decisive move, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed the rehabilitation of victims displaced due to Naxal insurgency in the Gadchiroli region, as well as those who have surrendered. The directive came during a meeting of the state-level committee convened to discuss the national plan and action plan concerning left-wing extremist ideology.

Present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, additional chief secretary (Home) Sujata Saunik, director-general of police Rajnish Seth, and other key officials.

Expressing the need for urgent action, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized the importance of rehabilitating those affected by Naxal activities and those who choose to renounce the extremist ideology and surrender. He directed that the process should be conducted expeditiously, with associated expenses covered through the District Planning scheme.

In addition, Shinde highlighted the importance of promptly appointing heirs of martyrs who lost their lives in special police operations on compassionate grounds. The Chief Minister further instructed the acceleration of the construction of a modern firing range on the Nagpur-Gadchiroli route.

As part of the comprehensive plan, Shinde called for the establishment of new police stations in Gadchiroli and the appointment of 25 officers and 500 police personnel at the local level. The meeting also delved into discussions on the introduction of the Maharashtra Public Security Act, commonly known as the Jan Suraksha Bill, with an emphasis on its swift implementation.

The Chief Minister’s directives underscore the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by Naxal insurgency and ensuring the welfare and security of the affected individuals in the Gadchiroli region. The measures discussed aim to bring about holistic development, security, and rehabilitation for those impacted by the left-wing extremist activities.
