Maharashtra Approves Establishment of Separate Scheduled Tribes (ST) Commission

Mumbai,Oct 12: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Wednesday that approval has been granted for the establishment of a separate Scheduled Tribes (ST) Commission for Maharashtra, aligning with the central government’s framework. The proposal received approval during the State Tribal Advisory Council meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

The meeting addressed various critical issues, including the reorganization of scheduled areas in the state, the allocation of funds based on population, and the initiation of project offices in talukas of tribal districts.

To formalize the establishment of an independent ST Commission for the state, the Department of Law and Justice’s opinion was sought, and the draft Act for this commission has been prepared by the Tribal Research and Training Institute. The decision was approved for further action during the 51st meeting of the State Tribal Advisory Council.

Additionally, the meeting engaged in a detailed discussion on the allocation of funds for the Tribal department. Chief Minister Shinde affirmed that the entire fund would be distributed to the department by the end of December, emphasizing the government’s commitment to tribal welfare and development.”
