Hyderabad, Oct 19: Ahead of the TSLA General Elections-2023 scheduled for November 30, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced since October 9, 2023. In line with the directives from the Election Commission of India and the State Election Commission, mobile police teams are actively preventing illegal transportation of money, precious metals, liquor, and other items.
In a proactive move, Mahankali Police conducted vehicle checks on Tuesday at 1800 hours near Swapnalok Complex on SD Road, within the jurisdiction of Mahankali Police Station. During these checks, the police seized 20 gold biscuits weighing 2000 grams with an estimated value of Rs 1.20 crore.
The gold biscuits were confiscated from Kummari Srikanth (27), an employee at Sahasra Jewellery shop in Nirmal and a resident of Buddavaripet, Nirmal District.
Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that Srikanth, at the direction of Rajashekar Raju, the owner of Sahasra Jewellery in Nirmal, and Arun, the owner of Siddi Vinayaka Jewellery shop in Adilabad, had traveled to Hyderabad for the purchase. He acquired 9 gold biscuits from Caps Gold on R.P. Road and 11 gold biscuits from M. Rajender Kumar Jewellery Shop at General Bazar, raising suspicion due to the nature of his activities.
A comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the liquid cash used for purchasing the gold biscuits, as well as to verify any related income tax returns.
Once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be communicated to the Returning Officer of the 62-Sanath Nagar Constituency for appropriate action, as stated in a police report on Wednesday.
