Srinagar, Oct 21 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s dedication to providing global market exposure to local artisans during the felicitation ceremony of Pashmina Exporters Manufacturers Association Awards. Sinha assured an increased number of stalls and shops at the Pragati Maidan exhibition in New Delhi.

Expressing the administration’s commitment to offering enhanced marketing opportunities and global market access for Jammu and Kashmir artisans, Sinha reiterated the focus on reviving the Pashmina industry. He highlighted Pashmina’s significance in cultural heritage and its contribution to the region’s economy.

Congratulating the award winners, Sinha commended the Pashmina Exporters Manufacturers Association for promoting Pashmina products. He noted the rising demand for J&K’s handicraft and handloom products due to the booming tourism sector and the successful G20 Summit.

Sinha highlighted the Centre’s grant of a Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Pashmina products, ensuring authenticity and discouraging imitation. Efforts to conserve and improve the population of Changthangi goats, the source of Pashmina wool, were also emphasized.

The Lt Governor urged associations and stakeholders to connect eligible artisans with the PM Vishwakarma Scheme for transformative impact in 18 identified trades. Artisans were recognized with appreciation certificates and cash rewards, with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award conferred to Gulam Hasan Shera.”
