Lok Sabha Speaker Emphasizes Collective Effort Against Terrorism at P20 Summit

New Delhi, Oct 16: – Lok Sabha Speaker, in a press conference following the successful conclusion of the P20 Summit, reiterated India’s firm condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He called upon nations to unite in defeating terrorism with collective determination, emphasizing that it poses a significant hindrance to peace and development globally.

Addressing key issues discussed during the summit, the Speaker highlighted the importance of a peaceful and prosperous world, underscoring the need to defeat all sources of terror collectively. The discussions also touched upon Artificial Intelligence and data security, with an emphasis on reliable and responsible use.

Birla informed that the P20 countries agreed to establish a group aimed at enhancing domain knowledge for legislative drafting. He commended the success of the New Delhi P20 Summit, noting it as the most successful ever in terms of delegation participation.

Notably, the Pan-African Parliament participated in the summit for the first time since the African Union’s admission as a member of the G20. A total of 436 delegates, including 48 Members of Parliament, participated in the summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in highlighting India as the mother of democracy during the inaugural session was acknowledged. Birla mentioned the promotion of women-led development in line with the Prime Minister’s initiative, with all Presiding Officers welcoming the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Bill 2023’ passed by the Indian Parliament.

On climate change, Birla noted that India has undertaken various initiatives to address the threat, and discussions on the concept of Environment-Friendly Lifestyle (LiFE) were held during the summit.

The role of digital platforms in bringing socio-economic change and facilitating service delivery and innovation was unanimously accepted by all participating countries during the discussions on the role of digital platforms.
