Bengaluru, Oct 17: Refuting corruption charges against the Congress party, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday alleged that the ill-gotten money found by the I-T department is linked to the BJP.

“BJP is the foundation of corruption. This is the reason why the people have voted out the BJP. Money that has been found belongs to the BJP, and it not at all linked to the Congress government in the state,” he told a section of the media.

Shivakumar was replying to a query on the BJP levelling allegations that the unaccounted money found by the I-T department belongs to the Congress.

A few days back, the I-T department had conducted search operations in which they seized a staggering Rs 94 crore in cash, alongside gold and diamond jewellery valued at over Rs 8 crore.

Approximately 30 luxury foreign wristwatches were also discovered during the raids, according to a statement by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

“I have been told that a lot of diaries have been seized. More revelations may surface. It is BJP’s brainchild,” Shivakumar said.

The search operation, launched on October 12, spanned 55 locations across Bengaluru and several cities in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi.

While the official CBDT statement did not identify the accused parties, it is understood that government contractors and real estate developers were the focus of these searches.
