The Karnataka government has set a maximum price of ₹200 for movie tickets in all theaters, including multiplexes. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced this decision during the state budget presentation to make movies more affordable and support the Kannada film industry.

To further promote Kannada films, the government is also launching its own OTT platform. This comes after filmmakers like Rakshit Shetty and Rishab Shetty raised concerns about major OTT platforms not showing enough interest in Kannada content. In 2024, Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studio even launched its own streaming platform to release the web series Ekam after failing to get a deal with big OTT services.

More Support for Kannada Cinema

  • ₹3 crore has been set aside to create an archive of Kannada films, both digital and non-digital, to preserve the state’s cinematic heritage.
  • The film industry has been given industry status, making it eligible for benefits under Karnataka’s Industrial Policy.
  • A new multiplex complex will be built in Bengaluru’s Nandini Layout through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) on a 2.5-acre plot owned by the Karnataka Film Academy.
  • The government has allocated 150 acres in Mysuru to build a Film City with world-class facilities. The ₹500 crore project aims to attract both Indian and international filmmakers.

These steps are expected to make movies more accessible and help the Kannada film industry grow.
