Altercation at Safdarjung Hospital Causes Disruption After IPS Officer Confronts Doctor
An altercation at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi led to a temporary halt in emergency services on Sunday. The incident occurred when Brijendra Kumar Yadav, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Armed Police and Training in Puducherry, became upset over the care his wife, Anita Roy, was receiving after her surgery. Yadav confronted Dr. Lakshya, a resident doctor in the surgery department, which led to tensions.

Witnesses reported that Yadav, accompanied by several police officers, confronted Dr. Lakshya aggressively, yelling and making threatening gestures. CCTV footage of the incident shows Yadav pointing his finger at the doctor in a hostile manner, although the video does not include sound.
The altercation sparked protests from the hospital’s medical staff. Doctors in the emergency ward stopped working until the issue was addressed. Services resumed only after the hospital allegedly asked Yadav and his wife to leave.
According to Dr. Rajat Gangwar, a senior resident, Yadav verbally attacked Dr. Lakshya, claiming he was more qualified and threatening the doctor’s career. The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) at Safdarjung Hospital condemned Yadav’s behavior, stating that such actions, especially from a senior official, were disgraceful and disrespectful to healthcare professionals.
