Apple’s iPhone maker Foxconn has doubled its workforce in India, according to a statement posted on its official LinkedIn account on Sunday ( September 17 ).
As per information from the LinkedIn account of V Lee, Foxconn’s representative in India, made the announcement by saying, ‘Happy Birthday, Honourable PM. Under your leadership, Foxconn has grown smoothly and rapidly in India. We will work even harder to present you with a greater birthday gift next year, aiming for another doubling of employment, FDI, and business size in India.”
Foxconn, the Taiwan-based manufacturer of iPhones, currently employs 40,000 people at its plant in Tamil Nadu. Lee did not provide any figures on the matter as of now.
Currently, Foxconn is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer. One of the emerging markets for Foxconn is India. The company has been rapidly expanding its manufacturing facilities in India’s southern states. As the global geopolitical situation continues to deteriorate, Foxconn is looking to reduce its reliance on China.
Liu Young-way, Chairman of Foxconn, said at an earnings conference last month that he’s really excited about what India has to offer and that the billions of dollars in investment is just the start.
