New Delhi, May 10 — In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a nationwide advisory urging citizens to practice responsible online behavior.

The advisory, widely shared on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), calls on the public to remain vigilant, share only verified information, and promptly report fake news. It outlines clear “Dos and Don’ts” for online conduct, including a strict warning against sharing sensitive military details such as troop movements, spreading unverified claims, or circulating any content that could provoke communal tensions.

In a major step for national security, MeitY has also ordered all OTT platforms and streaming services in India to immediately suspend and remove all Pakistani-origin content — including movies, web series, music, and podcasts.

Key Measures Announced:

  • Avoid and report fake news and unverified social media posts.
  • Refrain from posting or forwarding sensitive military details.
  • Suspend all streaming of Pakistani-origin films, series, songs, and podcasts.
  • Exercise heightened cybersecurity awareness during this volatile period.

Military Background:
According to the Indian Army, Pakistan launched a series of drone and artillery strikes across the western border on the night of May 8–9, 2025, resulting in multiple ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian forces mounted a robust defense and successfully repelled the attacks.

Meanwhile, security measures have been tightened across airports and key installations in several states, with some reports of flight disruptions due to heightened alert levels.

The government has called on all citizens to act responsibly online, as the situation remains tense and national security concerns remain high.
