Chandigarh, Dec 11 – Suspended Inspector-General (IG) of police Paramraj Singh Umranangal and two other cops have been booked for allegedly fabricating evidence in connection with a purported fake encounter case in 1994, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) said on Sunday.
The Punjab police SIT probing the 1994 encounter case involving one Sukhpal Singh of Gurdaspur has concluded that it was “stage-managed”. As a consequence, a fresh criminal case has been registered against Paramraj Singh Umranangal, among others.

The SIT was constituted on a 2013 plea of Dalbir Kaur, whose husband Sukhpal Singh was killed in the alleged fake encounter by Punjab Police.
