Hyderabad, Oct 23: After two challenging back-to-back losses to commence their 2023-24 Indian Super League campaign, Hyderabad Football Club (FC) is gearing up for action following the international break. They face off against fellow South Indian rivals, Chennaiyin FC, at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Gachibowli on Monday.
Returning to the Maidaan for the first time in over six months, Hyderabad FC is eager to secure a victory against Chennaiyin FC. Both teams are yet to secure a win in the current season, making this matchup crucial for both sides.
Chennaiyin FC, led by Head Coach Owen Coyle, enters the game after three consecutive losses but aims to turn the tide in their favor. Players like Rafael Crivellaro, Connor Shield, Ninthoinganba Meetei, Farukh Choudhary, Lazar Cirkovic, and Yumkhaibam Joteshwor have shown promise, and Jordan Murray is expected to return to action.
Conor Nestor, HFC’s First Team Coach, acknowledges the challenge posed by Chennaiyin FC and believes they have been unlucky in their previous matches. He emphasizes that both teams are in search of their first win and expects a tough battle on the field.
Hyderabad FC, also without a point, seeks to register a victory with the support of home fans. Despite back-to-back losses, players like Hitesh Sharma, Joe Knowles, Felipe Amroim, Aaren D’Silva, Mohammad Yasir, and Petteri Pennanen have showcased their effectiveness.
Nestor expresses optimism and eagerness to experience the atmosphere at the Maidaan. Laxmikant Kattimani is ruled out due to injury, but other players are available for selection, including the potential inclusion of Jonathan Moya and Oswaldo Alanis.
Cristian Battocchio’s availability is uncertain due to injury for the visitors. The match kicks off at 8:00 pm IST on October 23 and will be broadcast live on Sports 18 and VH1, with free streaming on Jio Cinema.
