Basti, Oct 25: Four persons, including two women, were arrested by the police on Tuesday allegedly for raising ”pro-pakistan” slogans during a religious function in Parashurampur area of Basti district in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said a Bhagwato Jagran was organised in Chauri Bazar under Parashurampur police station on Monday night. “During Jagran some persons climbed the dias and had an altercation with the persons present there,” he said.
He said that initially both the sides compromised, but today, local residents staged a demonstration on the issue. “After getting the information, the police and district administration officers reached the spot and pacified the demonstrators,” he said.
The ASP said that the demonstrators alleged that the persons who created disturbance during Monday night’s event raised pro-Pakistan slogans and attempted to throw black cloth on the statue of the Goddess. “On a complaint, police arrested Sami, Zakir alias Eidu, Sahiba and Saheedunihsa.
Police force has been deployed to maintain peace and order,” Chaudhary said.
