Kasaragod, Dec 14 – Former Trikaripur MLA and ex-CPI(M) district secretary K Kunhiraman passed away on Wednesday midnight due to an old-age illness at a private hospital in Kannur.
He was undergoing medical treatment. He was 80 and survived by his wife, NTK Sarojini, and five children—Sindhu, Sheena, Sheeja, Anil, and Sunil.

He was consecutively elected from Trikaripur constituency in Kasaragod district from 2006 to 2016 as a Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate.

He also served as the district secretary of CPI (M) from 1994–2004 and Cheruvannur Panchayath president from 1979–1984.

He was born to K V Kunhu Vaidhyar and Kunhi Manikyam of Thuruthy on November 10, 1943, and entered politics through the Kerala Students Federation (KSF), then the student wing of the Communist Party.

Kunhiraman also engaged in traditional culture and practice as an ayurvedic doctor.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoles the death and adds that his contribution to the political field as a best organiser and the traditional cultural practice as an Ayurveda doctor was memorable.

”The body will be kept at Kalikadavu, Kariyil, and Cheruvathur to pay last rites and homage to the people, and the cremation will take place at his own house premises at Mattalayi near Cheruvathur in the afternoon,” family sources said.
