Chennai, Oct 16: A day after the much-anticipated launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ferry services connecting Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, revived after a four-decade hiatus, faced cancellation on Sunday due to insufficient patronage. Reports suggest that only six to seven passengers had booked for the journey to Sri Lanka, prompting the cancellation of services for the day.
The ferry services were inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi via video conferencing from Nagapattinam port in Tamil Nadu to Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka. The three-hour journey saw passengers welcomed by Sri Lankan authorities. However, with a minimal number of bookings for Sunday’s trip, the services were temporarily halted, with plans to potentially resume on the following day.
