Kolhapur, Nov 23: The flying squad of State Excise department on Thursday seized India-made foreign liquor worth lakhs of rupees from a container on Kolhapur-Gaganbavda highway at Donvade village in Karveer tehsil of the district while allegedly being smuggled into Maharashtra from Goa and arrested two people in this connection.

Acting on a reliable information, an Excise team laid a trap at Donvade village and stopped a container on suspicion, an official press release said here.


During search of the vehicle, they found total 1,200 boxes containing bottles of IMFL made in Goa.
They confiscated the consignment along with container, collectively worth Rs 83.36 lakh.
They arrested two people, while two others ran away from the spot.
The arrested were identified as Deepak Prakash Powar and Rizwan Suleman Sheikh, both from Madgaon (Goa), the release added.
