Hyderabad, Nov 3 — Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners AC Pandey and Arun Goel, conducted a video conference with Chief Secretaries and DGPs of five poll-bound states—Telangana, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The Election Commission expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made and directed Chief Secretaries to ensure extreme vigilance and border sealing to prevent cross-border movement before polling.
Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari provided a briefing on the state’s poll preparedness and law and order situation. She highlighted several inter-state meetings with bordering states, emphasizing the need for coordination. The state has implemented surveillance, monitoring, and enforcement measures, resulting in cash seizures amounting to Rs 385 Crores.
As part of border security, 166 check posts have been set up across 17 bordering districts, and 154 check posts are established by neighboring states. A dedicated control room in the DGP office facilitates effective coordination with bordering states. To maintain peace, dry days have been declared in Telangana from November 28 to November 30, the polling day.
Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar assured the ECI officials of the peaceful law and order situation, with a decline in normal crime activities. Preemptive measures have led to the preventive custody of 182 individuals.
The conference included the participation of Telangana Special Chief Secretary (CT & Excise) Sunil Sharma, CEO Telangana Vikas Raj, Principal Secretary (Home) Jitender, Additional DG Mahesh Bhagawat, GAD Secretary V Seshadri, and CRPF IG Charu Sinha, among others.
