New Delhi, Oct 2: Delhi Police Special Cell on Monday arrested three persons with suspected links to a terror module.

They were caught after raids at multiple locations including Delhi, Dehradun and Lucknow, police said.

According to police, one of those arrested has been identified as Shahnawaz Alam (31) alias Abdullah, a native of Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. He was carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh from NIA on his arrest after he absconded from Pune in August this year.

The others arrested are Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf (28) resident of Lucknow and Md. Arshad Warsi (29) of Jamia Nagar in Delhi.

The Special Cell was continuously keeping surveillance through all possible means on the activities of suspect operatives of the terror module and their contacts/sympathizers with a special focus on Delhi-centric suspects. Specific information was received that the accused Shahnawaz Alam who was also wanted in some cases from Pune, was moving along with one Rizwan Ali and they along with their other associates, were planning to carry out some criminal activities in Delhi and adjoining areas, claimed police.

On October 1, on the basis of inputs, coordinated multiple raids were carried out in three states, Delhi, UP and Uttarakhand, with the assistance of the Central Intelligence Agency and concerned state police.

During the probe, Warsi disclosed that Shahnawaz Alam is known to him and he is an accomplice in the conspiracy to carry out some criminal activities in Delhi and adjoining areas along with others, claimed police in its communiqué. Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf was also arrested in the present case from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. Thereafter, on Sunday night, a raid was conducted in Delhi on the instance of accused Warsi and Shahnawaz Alam was arrested from a rented accommodation after a brief scuffle with the police team.

A separate case has been filed in this regard under sections 186/353/307 IPC & 25/27 Arms Act at the Police Station Special Cell, Delhi.

From the rented room of accused Alam, components used in making IEDs were recovered. Hence, sections 18/20 UA (P) Act and 4/5 Explosive Act were added to the case, claimed police.
