Mumbai, Sep 5 (UNI) Maharashtra Sports & Youth Welfare Minister Sanjay Bansode said on Tuesday that with the government having accorded the status of an adventure sport to the dahi handi festival, priority should be given to the safety of the govinda teams and the festival should be celebrated following strict rules.
Interacting with media at NCP regional office while attending the ‘Janata Samvad’, he said that strict rules have been made to prevent any injury to govindas and the use of helmets and mats has been made mandatory wherever possible while breaking dahi handi.
Bansode asserted that it is for the Govinda Coordination Committee to monitor the strict compliance of these rules by the govinda teams.
This year the government has insured 75,000 govindas by paying the sum of Rs 56.25 lakh to the insurance company for this, he added.
