Dec 13, Nagpur – Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered an investigation into the demise of 36 animals at the “Nisarkavi Bahinabai Chaudhary Zoo” in Sambhajinagar, under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The inquiry will be conducted by the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department.

Responding to a query during the Assembly’s Question Hour, Shinde instructed the municipal corporation to promptly transfer the zoo’s jurisdiction to the Forest Development Corporation. The zoo, closed since 2017 for renovation and beautification, awaits completion of pending work in accordance with Central Zoo Authority regulations.

The Chief Minister assured that the deaths of the 36 animals between 2017 and 2023 were natural and reported to the authorities after postmortem examinations conducted by the municipal corporation.
