China Urges Israel to Lift Gaza Blockade and Allow Supply Flow

Nov 11: In a significant diplomatic move, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, has issued a strong call for Israel to immediately lift the blockade on Gaza. During a meeting of the UN Security Council, Zhang emphasized the urgency of allowing the flow of livelihood supplies to the beleaguered enclave.

Zhang specifically addressed the need to remove restrictions, highlighting the critical importance of ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of fuel to humanitarian and medical institutions. This call comes in the context of the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the health system is described as being “on its knees,” according to the World Health Organization.

China is actively advocating for the utilization of all border crossings into Gaza, urging Israel to open access points, including the Kerem Shalom border crossing at the Gaza Strip–Israel border and the Rafah crossing at the Gaza–Egypt border.

Currently, only the Rafah crossing is open for humanitarian traffic and civilians seeking to leave the Gaza Strip towards Egypt. The closure of the Rafah checkpoint has posed additional challenges, with Russia engaging in diplomatic efforts to address the issues and facilitate the evacuation of its citizens.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation and urging Israel to take immediate steps to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of complying with international humanitarian law.
