Chennai Police Swiftly Rescue Sri Lankan National from Abduction, Arrest Four Including Woman

Chennai, Nov 17 – In a rapid and successful operation, the Chennai City Police rescued a Sri Lankan national who had been abducted for ransom in Mannady, North Chennai, and apprehended four individuals, including a woman.

Police officials reported that the arrested individuals were involved in the abduction, and the swift response resulted in the safe rescue of the victim.

The incident unfolded when a woman from Sri Lanka contacted the Greater Chennai Police Control room, expressing distress over her father, Mohammed Shyam (50). Shyam had come to Chennai for business purposes and was staying in Parrys corner in Mannady. The woman received a call from her father’s cellphone, where an unknown person demanded Rs.15 lakhs for his release.

Upon receiving the complaint, a case was registered at North Beach Police Station, leading to a thorough investigation. The police traced the cell phone number of the abducted Mohammad Shyam, leading to the arrest of Chithra (43), Riyaz Askhar (47), Velmurugan (41), and Dinesh (31). Mohammad Shyam was successfully rescued during the operation, and one car was seized from the accused.

The investigation revealed that Mohammad Shyam owed money to Chithra, who, along with her boyfriend and accomplices, had abducted him in a car. They threatened Shyam’s daughter and demanded money for his release. The investigation is ongoing.
