Pedgaon, Ahilyanagar District – Following Pedgaon’s lead, Chandgaon has now banned the sale of caffeinated soft drinks and energy drinks. The village Gram Panchayat passed the decision on Tuesday, raising concerns about the increasing consumption of these drinks among schoolchildren. Many parents have supported the move, highlighting the possible health risks.

Even though selling these drinks to minors under 18 is already restricted, they are still easily available in local shops. Worried about the dangers, Chandgaon Sarpanch Manisha Mhaske took the initiative to introduce the ban and encouraged shopkeepers to follow it for the well-being of students.

These drinks have become popular among schoolchildren and are commonly seen at birthday parties and social gatherings. Parents fear that frequent consumption may lead to addiction, especially among secondary and higher secondary school students.

Pedgaon was the first village in the district to introduce such a ban after reports linked a student’s death to excessive consumption of caffeinated drinks. Pedgaon Sarpanch Irfan Pirjade led the effort, stating, “Children are the future, and we cannot let them become addicted to these drinks.”

Now, parents in the area are calling for other villages, including Adhalgaon, Hirdgaon, and Shedgaon, to introduce similar bans to protect children from potential health risks.
