Kolhapur, Nov 24: After nearly eight hours blocking the road, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) chief Raju Shetty on Thursday evening called off the ‘chakka jam’ (rasta roko) agitation on Pune-Bangalore national highway after his demand of Rs 100 per tonne for last year’s crushed sugarcane and Rs 100 as extra amount with fair and remunerative price (FRP) for this year’s sugarcane.

Shetty said that in a meeting with district collector Rahul Rekhavar and sugar factory owners, his demand of Rs 100 per tonne for last year’s crushed sugarcane and extra Rs 100 for this year’s sugarcane with FRP, following which, he withdrew his agitation, he informed.

In the meeting, it was decided that sugar mills which have given FRP less than Rs 3,000 per tonne for

sugarcane to farmers in the previous year should pay Rs 100 per tonne while those which have paid more than Rs 3,000 per tonne should pay Rs 50 per tonne extra to farmers, he added.
