Nov.30: Ceiling fans are used commonly in homes and despite the arrival of winter, the demand for them is expected to rise in the upcoming months. Union Cabinet Minister Piyush Goyal has shared crucial information for customers who plan to purchase ceiling fans after February 2024.

In a social media video, he recommends that consumers carefully examine specific factors before buying new fans next season. A cautionary video was posted on social media platform X by the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal on Friday, November 24, 2023. The video aimed to alert consumers about the importance of being vigilant when purchasing ceiling fans from next year.

The minister emphasized significant changes in the regulations concerning ceiling fans and highlighted that the Consumer Ministry has enforced stringent safety rules for the benefit of consumers. He urged consumers to check for the Indian Standards Institution mark or ISI mark on fans before making a purchase. Starting from February 2024, all ceiling fan manufacturers will be required to comply with the ministry’s directive to obtain the ISI mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for their products.

The directive also mandates the issuance of quality control orders to all fan manufacturers, and any ceiling fans sold, stored, or exported without the ISI mark will not be permitted. The ministry’s notification clearly states that failure to adhere to the guidelines will lead to serious repercussions. As per the instructions, individuals who violate the guidelines for the first time may be fined Rs 2 lakh and could face imprisonment for a maximum of 2 years.

Furthermore, those who repeatedly violate the guidelines may be subject to a penalty of Rs 5 lakh or may have to pay up to 10 times the value of the product. This initiative not only guarantees the safety of consumers but also promotes the growth of local small businesses and enhances production.

Consumers are strongly advised to exercise caution and give priority to purchasing ceiling fans that comply with the Bureau of Indian Standards to avoid any legal repercussions, as the new regulations are specifically designed to enhance safety standards for these fans. The video shared by Piyush Goyal on X emphasizes that this measure will guarantee that ceiling fans meet high-quality standards, ultimately prioritizing the safety of consumers.
