Sonbhadra (UP), Dec 16 – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Duddhi seat Ramdular Gond was on Friday sentenced to 25 years imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 10.10 lakh by a special court in Sonbhadra district in a nine-year-old rape case, a prosecution officer said.
Special Public Prosecutor (Pocso) Satya Prakash Tripathi said that the MP-MLA court Additional District Judge Ahsanullah Khan had held Gond guilty on December 12 for rape of a minor girl after which he was taken into custody.
“Pronouncing the quantum of punishment, the court sentenced Gond to 25 years of imprisonment, of which 20 years will be rigorous, along with a penalty of Rs 10.10 lakh,” he said.
The court directed that the penalty amount, once deposited, should be given to the victim for her rehabilitation.
“The court stated that the time spent by the MLA in jail will be adjusted in the sentence,” he said.
Tripathi said that the matter relates to November 2014, when Gond was not an MLA.
“During that period, the brother of the victim filed a complaint at Myorpur police station accusing Gond of sexually assaulting his sister for more than a year after threatening her,” he said.
He said, “On the basis of the complaint, the police lodged a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and filed a charge sheet in court.”
