Beed, Oct 31 — In a significant development, Laxman Pawar, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), tendered his resignation from the post of Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Monday, aligning himself with the ongoing Maratha reservation movement in Maharashtra.

The Maratha reservation movement has gained momentum across the state, with activists urging elected representatives, including MLAs, MPs, and public figures, to resign in support of their cause. Laxman Pawar’s resignation marks the second such move in the state, following the earlier resignation of Hingoli MP Hemant Patil.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Assembly Speaker, Pawar expressed his commitment to the longstanding demand for Maratha community reservation. The letter, which quickly circulated on social media, emphasized the strong sentiments within the community regarding this issue.

“The issue of Maratha community reservation in Maharashtra has been pending for many years. Community sentiments are very strong on this issue, and I support the Maratha reservation. I am resigning from my post for the cause of Maratha reservation,” Pawar stated in his letter.

Highlighting his history as an activist advocating for the rights of the Maratha society and farmers, Pawar reiterated his steadfast support for the reservation movement. “I have been an activist fighting for the Maratha society and farmers for many years. I support the reservation movement, and I am resigning from my post to further the cause of reservation,” he added.

The resignation comes as part of a broader trend, with numerous party workers and leaders stepping down from their positions, echoing the growing demand for Maratha reservation. The movement has taken a decisive turn, with agitators imposing village bans on political leaders, intensifying pressure on elected representatives to align with the cause.

As the state witnesses a wave of resignations from public representatives, including MLAs and MPs, the Maratha reservation movement continues to be a focal point in Maharashtra’s political landscape. Pawar’s resignation underscores the heightened significance of this issue, as leaders across party lines grapple with the complex dynamics surrounding reservations and community rights.
